The University Teaching Hospital of Butare known as CHUB welcomes you all to its official website. CHUB is located at Mamba village, Butare Cell, Ngoma Sector, Huye District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. It is near the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, on the road crossing near IPRC South from Butare town Modern Market. CHUB is the first Teaching Hospital in Rwanda, created in 1928 as BUTARE Hospital and operated that time under full management of National University of Rwanda. The Hospital was given full autonomy to be University Teaching Hospital in 1966 but still in close collaboration and management of the National University of Rwanda. In 2000, the Law approved CHUB to be autonomously managed. The National University of Rwanda’s laboratory was also transferred to CHUB. The University Teaching Hospital of Butare is committed to provide quality health care according to international standards, train health professionals, contribute to the development of human resources, conduct outstanding research and provide technical support to the health system.

Dr. Christian NGARAMBE MD, MMed,
Acting Director General

Dr. Christian Ngarambe's Biography

Dr. Ngarambe Christian holds Medical Degree (MD) and specialty in General Surgery from the National University of Rwanda.
He is a Consultant General Surgeon at University Teaching Hospital of Butare since 2015 up to now.

He occupied different leadership positions in CHUB as Head of Surgery department and Director of Medical services before being appointed Ag. Director General.
Dr. Ngarambe Christian has been working for the health sector for the past 12 years with extensive experience in General Surgery and trauma Orthopedic patients management.

He is a Senior Lecture in University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
He has conducted and involved in various clinical researches published in scientific journals.
Dr. Ngarambe Christian is actually appointed Ag. Director General of the University Teaching
Hospital of Butare (CHUB), the First University Teaching Hospital in Rwanda Located in Huye
District, Southern Province, since 29 th November 2022.

Objectives

The main objectives of CHUB:

  • Advocacy for CHUB’s development.
  • Provide required resources for the implementation of our strategic plan 2019-2024.
  • Provide the support to the development of countrywide and/or regional reference services (dialysis, genetics laboratory, pathology, etc.)
  • Strengthen the CHUB capacity building (Human Resources development)
  • Promote «Evidence-based practice research».
  • Support CHUB for providing Technical support to district hospitals.
